Elsewhere, the designer was also inspired by a happy confluence between Ferragamo’s ballet history and his own heritage. It turns out that, in 1935, the American Dunham was awarded travel fellowships to research dance in the Caribbean, and spent a lot of her time in Trinidad, where Davis is from. Because of this, the collection is intentionally “imbued with the energy of the Caribbean”: stonewashed denim comes with frayed, distressed edges, men’s sandals are laser cut in the shape of the Gancini emblem, and injections of cobalt and crimson burst through a palette of hushed and muted tones.
