Taking inspiration from objects collected by the obscenely wealthy, Anderson served his audience a voyeuristic glimpse into a world of priceless interior furnishings and knick-knacks, based on “the idea of an outsider looking into a world that we don’t experience”. (Although, for the record, Anderson does own a York painting himself.) Think: gaudy floral prints, plastered on bunched-up dresses or extra-baggy trousers, and garments bearing kitschy, “caviar-beaded” illustrations of songbirds and toy dogs.
