While researching the JPG archive, Rocha was invited to Hampton Court Palace to view Queen Victoria’s mourning gown, and was struck by the similarity in corsetry between Gaultier’s work and the royal dresses, despite differing in almost every other aspect. This preoccupation transfers to this collection, with lace-up corsets and ivory boning appearing on dresses, shirts and even a gauze-like windbreaker.
