Anderson did a similar thing for Loewe’s SS20 collection – with all its wing-like shoulder arcs and pastel pink swags of chiffon – drawing inspiration from The Deposition from the Cross, painted by the Italian artist Jacopo Pontormo in 1528. As the silhouette swung from the completely sparse to the completely overblown, conjuring the mediaeval serf and the Renaissance monarch, Anderson closed with a slew of massive, shaved shearling coats with bouncy hems and bell sleeves before taking a bow in a sensible chore jacket and tracksuit bottoms.
