Ester Manas’ SS23 collection looked like something you might see in London or New York, because even despite the rise of Paloma, Alva, Jill, and Precious, the majority of designers on the continent still aren’t hiring “curve” models. So that Paris’ only example of truly size-inclusive clothing should cleave at the idea of a “beach body” felt all the more pertinent. Far from the shapeless maxi dresses that are usually worn by fat models on the runway, Manas offered up a spectrum of kaleidoscopic club-to-beach looks, all gathered and ruched with peekaboo openings and fun, frilly hemlines.
