For a split second, it all felt a bit Ferrari, with Maximilian teasing his upcoming offering with a glittering sports car and a strappy heel on the label’s newly-gutted Instagram account – though that would contradict just how noble and elegant his SS23 collection proved to be. Backdropped by 17th century colonnades in a soon-to-be Ferragamo hotel, a courtyard was covered in red marble sand – the colour emblematic of the designer’s Trinidadian heritage and an old, beaded Ferragamo shoe beloved by Marilyn Monroe. Inspired by the brand’s old Hollywood connections, Maximilian introduced sunset degradés in liquid scarf dresses, ruched and draped minis, heat-mapped workwear in crinkled vinyls, and diaphanous halter necks, which had been pulled taut across one shoulder.
