“I layered fuckloads of mascara. Half a bottle of mascara, layering layering layering. To me, though it doesn't look literal at all, it was symbolic – it’s about being very multi-faceted, having lots of layers to you. Some of those layers are quite conventionally pretty, and some are quite ugly, and this was the outcome. I also did a very youthful transparent blusher. I always think a flushed face is quite glorious: it’s about an inner child, flustered, running around, freedom, liberated, angelic, feeling alive” – Emily Wood
