I read about the ‘Miami Beach’ fun fair which was on the seafront in the 50s and 60s. It was
located a stone’s throw from the famous Jersey Hotel and town lido, the latter of which was
opened by the Queen in 1966. The fair had plenty of period specific attractions becoming
quite the tourist hot spot in South Wales. I had seen some pictures of a bikini competition
held in around 1968 and wanted to recreate the feeling the images evoked.
‘Port Talbot is home. It’s my roots. All my best childhood memories are from living here. It’s
always been a really eclectic town from as far back as I remember. It’s got so much diversity
and a multiracial community which makes it a beautiful place to live culturally. Having one of
the most stunning sunset beaches along with a vast array of countryside and mountains
makes us very blessed.'
