SPARE RIB, no 173, December 1986: Spare Rib was an active part of the Women’s Liberation Movement. Its purpose, as described in its editorial, was “to investigate and present alternatives to the traditional gender roles for women of virgin, wife or mother”. Running from 1972-93, it shaped debate about feminism in the UK, challenging the stereotyping and exploitation of women.
