Ebola (Brighton, UK)

The tropical 8-bit grime artist is soon to be launching his own label

Ebola has been smashing out his super grimey dubstep across warehouse parties and net labels for the last five years, garnering support form the likes of Metronomy and Mary Anne Hobbs and even remixing urban siren Little Boots. Now he has a 12" out on Portland dubstep label Lo Dubs reaching out in the USA. For this release we get a mix mainroom skanking raw dubstep with stand out track Kaiju contrasting with more of a 2-step tip and a bit of 8-bit chip tune sounds thrown in for good measure. The tropical vibes are starting to take hold with a new label Ben is setting up soon to be launched by the end of the year.

What’s
...so special about you, then?
I see dead people. I really do, I live above a funeral parlour.

...your worst vice?
It's a toss-up between: Schwarzenegger films, Old Jamaica Ginger Beer. Oh and turning other people's music off, in favour of what I want to hear. I really get off on that.

...the story behind your name?
It's named after a horrible virus. I'm not one of those sinister types though! I just like the word really. Rolls off the tongue.

...the world coming to?
Good question, only the other day I heard Danny Dyer has taken up DJing.

...your worst fashion secret?
Fashion has always seemed like a dark art to me. Mostly I just wear grey hoodies. I have a cupboard full of them.

...your favourite website?
Sadly, it's probably Youtube.

...better, analog or digital?
I don't go in for any of that elitist crap. If it sounds good use it. Having said that, me and my Wrong Music cohort Mully, were using his Jupiter 8 in the studio the other day and the bass sounded like heaven.

...at the top of your shit list?
TV is pretty shit. I'd say that ranks high.

...are you listening to now?
Basil Poledouris, Dem Hunger, Deadboy, old Ellis D mixtapes, Dam Funk, Cupp Cave... that's just today mind.

...the best advice you've ever heard?
Never trust a man wearing a roll-neck.

....the worst piece of music you've ever heard?
That's a tough one, as I have quite a high pain threshold. Probably something by Robbie Williams.

...the tastiest meal you've eaten?
My mum's Christmas roast.

...on your agenda for the next six months?
Busy setting up a record label with my partner in crime, Sorry. The first release is going to be a jungle mixtape by myself and Shitmat. All new unreleased jungle, rave and tropical stuff and only available on cassette. Then we'll have some seriously hot 12"s coming out. More info will be up on my myspace very soon.

How would you describe your work?
Constantly evolving (I hope).
