Among the suspects is the woman who returned the pop star’s dogs days after the robbery. Gaga’s French bulldogs Koji and Gustav were stolen in Hollywood, near Sunset Boulevard, on February 24. A third dog, Asia, was left unharmed, while Fischer was shot in the chest with a handgun. The dog walker has since had to have part of his lung removed, and called the incident “a very close call with death” in a subsequent social media post. Following the theft, Lady Gaga — who was in Rome beginning production on Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci — offered a $500,000 reward for the dogs’ safe return. Both were handed in to police by Jennifer McBride two days later. Now, the 50-year-old has been named as one of two suspected accomplices, charged with accessory to attempted murder alongside Harold White (40), the father of another suspect. The three main suspects, James Jackson, Jaylin White, and Lafayette Whaley (aged 18, 19, and 27, respectively), have been charged with attempted murder and robbery. According to the BBC, police don’t believe that any of the attackers were aware of the link to Lady Gaga, but were motivated by “the great value of the breed of dogs”. The report adds that all four men charged were “documented gang members”. As reported by the Guardian, online jail records show that each of the five suspects was being held on $1 million bail. Lady Gaga is yet to publicly respond to the arrests. Sharing images of his recovery last month, Fischer recalled being shot and described Asia as his “guardian angel”, adding: “My panicked screams calmed as I looked at her, even though it registered that the blood pooling around her tiny body was my own.” “I cradled Asia as best I could, thanked her for all the incredible adventures we’d been on together, apologized that I couldn’t defend her brothers, and then resolved that I would still try to save them.” If you bought or found them unknowingly, the reward is the same.
