Happy Harlecore day! After half a decade producing works for the likes of Charli XCX, Rina Sawayama, Clairo, Caroline Polachek, PC Music legend Danny L Harle has dropped his debut album, Harlecore. Harnessing the transcendental power of trance, the record is divided into four sounds, each represented by a room in Harle’s interactive, eponymous virtual Club Harlecore, which opens tonight. There’s the maniacal makina of MC Boing, whose “Boing Beat” and “Car Song” hark back to the halycon days of Crazy Frog; the uplifting hardcore of DJ Danny’s “On A Mountain” and DJ Mayhem’s gabber-fuelled “Interlocked”. These high-intensity sounds are punctuated with otherworldly soundscapes courtesy of DJ Ocean, whose “Ocean’s Theme” and “For So Long” offer a slice of restorative ambience. So, what are you waiting for?
Elsewhere, Spanish trap maestro C Tangana returns to his roots on El Madrileño, UK drill rapper Digga D stuns on new mixtape Made In Pyrex, and K-pop group SHINee release their long-awaited comeback, Don’t Call Me. In a new interview with Dazed, group member Minho spoke about the album’s title track, saying: “We felt that (‘Don’t Call Me’) was the perfect track because it also showcases our performance. That was something we really wanted to do. SHINee is a group that always tries something new.” Enjoy!
