Watch a steamy Harry Styles find clarity in new track ‘Lights Up’

It’s the London-based musician’s first release since his eponymous debut studio album in 2017

It’s official: Harry Styles has dropped his first new single in over two years. Called “Lights Up”, the highly-anticipated track come with an accompanying Brockhampton-style music video shot in Mexico, which sees a mostly shirtless Styles grind and dance with others on a dance floor, before riding away on the back of a motorcycle.

The release of the track follows the appearance of mysterious billboards in cities across the world last week, emblazoned with the words, “Do you know who you are?”. While there was no mention of Harry Styles’ name, fan speculation began when people noted the acronym “TPWK” on the posters – an abbreviation that corresponds with “treat people with kindness”, which Styles printed on his merch last tour.

Back in August, Styles spoke to Rolling Stone about his experiences taking magic mushrooms at Malibu’s Shangri-La studios: “Did a lot of mushrooms in here. We’d do mushrooms, lie down on the grass, and listen to Paul McCartney’s ‘Ram’ in the sunshine,” he said. “We’d just turn the speakers into the yard. This is where I was standing when we were doing mushrooms and I bit off the tip of my tongue. So I was trying to sing with all this blood gushing out of my mouth. So many fond memories, this place.” Whatever floats your boat, Harry.
