Cardi B confirms pregnancy on live TV days after album release

The singer is having her first baby with rapper fiancé Offset

In a moment which echoed Beyoncé’s 2011 pregnancy announcement live at the VMA’s, Cardi B displayed a swelling baby bump live on air while performing on Saturday Night Live.

Clad in a figure-hugging white dress, the reveal was made during her second performance of the night, “Be Careful”, when the camera panned down to show her bump.

There had been speculation that the “Bodak Yellow” musician was carrying a child since the beginning of the year – but she chose to announce it in her own time, just days after the release of her acclaimed debut album, Invasion of Privacy.

The album, released on April 6, has already been certified as Gold, thanks to “Bodak Yellow” being certified five times multi-platinum in September 2017. Her second single from the release, “Bartier Cardi” has also gone Platinum.

While there has been some chatter on social media that the artist should have prioritised her career over having a child, today Cardi B snapped back, tweeting “I started winning when the whole world was doubting on me !think imma lose with my little baby counting on me?”

In an interview with Dazed in 2016, Cardi B explained how she “never thought my mixtape would blow up and I’d be making the money and the deals that I’m making today” because she was a “loner” and not a “party girl”.
