From Hedi Slimane’s grunge moment at Saint Laurent Paris to Christopher Kane’s micro kilts, fashion is currently in hock to the two-finger salute of rock. Chanelling their "Get Loud" attitude, Converse have reimagined their classic Chuck Taylor’s in leather and studs and, for the month of August, are teaming up with central London tattoo parlour The Circle, opening today.
Yet fashion would be naught without a soundtrack. To celebrate the collaboration, Converse are curating a head-thrashing summer line-up at The Circle including Metz, Bring Me The Horizon and New Slang. On 17th August, they will be joined by New York duo Pure Love. Singer Frank Carter and guitarist Jim Carroll previously played in hardcore bands Gallows and The Suicide File/The Hope Conspiracy respectively, finding common ground in pursuing a “real rock” sound. Taking their name from a song by ’70s jazz-rock fusionists Mahavishnu Orchestra, Sapphire Bullets Of Pure Love, the band have played Leeds and Reading festivals and toured with Paramore and Biffy Clyro. In anarchic spirit, they set out to be heard: “There isn’t anything like this out there – that’s why we did it,” says Carter. “We need to fucking shake things up.” Ahead of their gig at Circle, they choose their top tunes to angst out to. We say turn it up loud.
