We stream the new track on the Black Acre producer's EP featuring Alby Daniels
Following his 2009 flip with Rich Reason, which came out on Hemlock, Stephen Gomberg aka Fantastic Mr Fox has had a number of releases on Black Acre records, a label which prides itself on its disregard of conforming to a single genre. On his latest track, Gomberg takes a new stance, mixing dance and ‘sort-of’ house with slower beats to create what he calls ‘reluctant dance music’. With the release of the new track, 'Speak Nuh,' on June 4th, Dazed chats to the Fantastic Mr Fox about childhood antics and inspirations and what we can expect in the future from this rising artist.
...your party trick?
Urmm, I can get my arm to reach around the back of my neck to touch the opposite ear. Not really sure it brings much to the party atmosphere, though.
...the story behind your name?
My older brother convinced me to upload some of my music onto Myspace a few years ago, but I didn't have a name at that point so we both looked through old story-tapes in our house for ideas. We came across the Fantastic Mr Fox tape in some old boxes and decided to go with that.
...your worst vice?
Overuse of butter?
... your favourite sound?
a crisp handclap
...your favourite website?
...your favourite record label?
...your worst fashion secret?
I dressed up as Batman every day from the ages of 3-5 . Was a bit of a DIY version, though- I only had a pink blanket and a mask to work with.
...are you listening to now?
Romare's live set. Excited to see what what he puts out this year.
How would you describe your work?
Reluctant dance music
A four track EP on Black Acre, followed by a one-sided white label of a gospel house song I made as a bit of fun after the EP.
