The young Scottish production duo making heavy tech-house numbers whip up a new mix for us as they release on Tiga's Turbo Recordings
The new duo on Tiga's infamous Turbo Recordings take on the brashest of mechanical electro influenced tech-house sounds with intense driving beats under the guise of 'Clouds'. For their first release, the label's youngest-ever signings, hailing from the Scottish shire of Perth, were asked to enlist a techno hero of theirs, noneother than Turbo stalwart - the Swedish legend and one half of the Dahlbäck Brothers, Jesper Dahlbäck. Here we speak to the duo about their crystal meth addiction and World of Warcraft alongside an exclusive new mix featuring Aphex Twin and Extrawelt.
...special about you?
Liam: Hmm... It's not really special but I was born in Bermuda. I made the request to my mum for that to be my place of birth and she accepted.
Calum: I'm a DJ.
...your worst vice?
Liam: I think mine would have to be smoked sausage in batter from the chip shop. Either that or crystal meth, I'm not sure which is worse.
Calum: Probably World of Warcraft. I think my playtime is about 70 days.
... your favourite sound?
Liam: You know the sound when something heavy falls into water, just before the splash there is a cool thud sound? That's a favourite I think.
Calum: The sound of people opening packages. I'm always watching that shit on Youtube.
...your greatest inspiration?
Liam: Musically speaking Daft Punk for sure. I love Alive so much I got it tattooed on my arm. Cool.
Calum: I guess it's Daft Punk as well, I remember hearing 'Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger' when I was about 10 and thinking how I had never heard anything like it.
...your favourite website?
...your favourite label?
Liam: I love the Belgian label R&S and Numbers from Glasgow is a really great label putting out really cool stuff at the moment.
Calum: Turbo! I'm really into Stroboscopic Artefacts at the moment, Modern Love too. And Warp.
...are you listening to now?
Liam: Right now I'm listening to 'So Will Be Now' Feat. Pional by John Talabot
Calum: Kindred - Burial
How would you describe your work?
Liam: I think the stuff which we have released so far has been a cross between techno and electro but the stuff we are working on now is veering away from the electro and more into a dub techno sound I guess.
Calum: Super dope!
What are you most excited about next?
Liam: I think for me at the minute I'm really excited about the live visuals we are working on. We have some pretty cool ideas and things are taking shape nicely.
Calum: We've made some music that we are actually really into and we're going to try and release a series of EPs over this year featuring said music.
