We speak to the mobile disco ahead of their gig at the long-running clubnight's new festival in 2012
One of the UK's longest running club nights, Bugged Out, (who first booked LFO back in '94, to everyone from Daft Punk, The Chemical Brothers, Tiga, Boys Noize and Carl Craig since) are now in their 17th year. The team have established a name for themselves with their parties across Europe and the UK as well as running stages at London’s Field Day festival and releasing acclaimed compilations by Erol Alkan, Damian Lazarus, Ivan Smagghe, Miss Kittin, Simian Mobile Disco, Klaxons, Hot Chip, Boys Noize & Brodinski.
Now for January 2012, they will be putting on the Bugged Out Weekender as a culmination of the club's rich history featuring the best emerging electro, techno, disco and bass acts and collectives as well as globally massive DJs like Diplo and Chase & Status, to legends like techno founders Green Velvet and Kevin Saunderson. Night Slugs' Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 will be teaming up with Glasgow’s Numbers crew with Hudson Mohawke, SBTRKT and Rustie. Giving a taste of what can be expected from the Bugged Out Weekender, Bugged Out will also be hosting a series of London club nights ‘Road to the Weekender’ throughout November 2011. Ahead of the weekend-long rave at Butlins, we speak to Simian Mobile Disco about what to expect asides from dodgy chalets and a whole lot of electro...
Dazed Digital: What are you looking forward to most about playing the Bugged Out fest?
Simian Mobile Disco: Raving it up in Butlins.
DD: How has SMD changed musically (or otherwise) in the last year?
Simian Mobile Disco: We like to think of SMD as always changing slowly... in tiny increments. Obviously our Delicacies label was a biggest shift in direction, but that was more of a parallel stream than a total shift. Our new album will be incorporating all our past references and looking forward to something different...
DD: Where do you want to be in 5 years time?
Simian Mobile Disco: Working from a habitat orbiting the earth.
DD: What projects are you focusing on now?
Simian Mobile Disco: Our album... and nothing else!
DD: Who are you listening to at the moment?
Simian Mobile Disco: Disco Inferno "The Five EPs".
DD: What are you most excited about right now?
Simian Mobile Disco: Finishing up our album and working on a new live show for next year...
Bugged Out Weekender: Friday 20th, Saturday 21st, Sunday 22nd January 2012
