Global youth activists call for gender equality in Gucci’s CHIME Zine

In the latest edition, the young voices of the Generation Equality Forum spotlight urgent issues facing feminists today, from intimate partner violence to period poverty

“Change is not granted on a carefully laid out timetable,” writes activist Adam Eli, in the latest edition of Gucci’s CHIME Zine. “Change happens when marginalised people demand it.”

Launched this week (June 29), the special digital issue of CHIME Zine does just that. Bringing together youth activists and organisers of the Generation Equality Forum (GEF), this edition calls for transformative action to advance gender equality across the world.

Youth voices from Brazil, India, Turkey, the US, Argentina, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, and more spotlight urgent issues facing feminists today, from intimate partner violence, HIV and Aids, and LGBTQ+ rights, to disability, migration, period poverty, and trafficking.

To mark the issue’s release, CHIME Zine’s editor Eli, Dazed’s executive editorial director Lynette Nylander, and two contributors from the issue will go live on Dazed’s Instagram account on Tuesday (July 6) – keep an eye out for more info.

The latest edition of the zine is art directed by visual artist MP5, with contributors including Zahra Al Hilaly, Ilayda Eskitascioglu, Racha Haffar, Shantel Marekera, Doreen Moraa Moracha, Sylvain Obedi, Juan Pablo Poli, Camila Rosa, Ana Saenz de Tejada, and Anika Jane Dorothy.

The issue is being released as the GEF begins in Paris today (June 30), and is created by Gucci and CHIME FOR CHANGE – a campaign launched by the brand, Salma Hayek Pinault, and Beyoncé in 2013.

Running from today until Friday (July 2), the GEF is a global gathering for gender equality convened by UN Women and co-hosted by the Mexican and French governments. Earlier this year, Gucci began a five-year partnership with the event, with the aim of uplifting and advancing the rights of women and girls.
