Megan Fox is ‘proud’ that Jennifer’s Body helped queer girls come out

‘If my purpose on Earth was to help one girl come out of the closet and feel okay about it, I had an amazing purpose here’

In the midst of her pop culture renaissance, Megan Fox has shared some thoughts on her starring role in the 2009 cult horror film Jennifer’s Body.

The film – which originally tanked in the box office, but has now been solidified as a campy horror classic – saw Fox playing Jennifer, a popular high school cheerleader who starts feasting on the flesh of men after getting possessed by a demon and Amanda Seyfriend as Jennifer’s nerdy best friend, Needy. Besides iconic exchanges between the two women, including – “You’re killing people!”, “No, I’m killing boys” – Needy and Jennifer follow a romantic storyline in the film, which is often credited for helping queer girls come out as LGBTQ+.

In the film, as Jennifer grows more possessed, Needy rightfully asks Jennifer to leave her bedroom out of fear. Jennifer responds, “But we always share your bed when we have slumber parties… I’m not going to bite you,” before the two share a steamy make-out session.

Speaking to Page Six, Fox said: “I can’t tell you how many girls, from 30 down into their teens — or, fuck that, my age, too — come up to me and are like, ‘I realised I was gay because of you,’ or ‘I felt comfortable coming out because of you,’ because of Jennifer’s Body and the interviews I did about being bisexual before it was cool.”

“That’s something that’s so important to me, that I’m so proud of,” she continued. “If my purpose on Earth was to help one girl come out of the closet and feel okay about it, I had an amazing purpose here.”

Last year, Fox spoke up about the toxicity she experienced from a young age in the film industry, adding to large-scale conversations about the mistreatment of women in Hollywood and placing Jennifer’s Body back in the spotlight.

Since then – besides flaunting her viral relationship with Machine Gun Kelly (see: “I am weed” comments) – the actor has landed a starring role in Netflix’s upcoming vampire horror, Night Teeth, alongside Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney. Both women will play the alluring leaders of an underground vampire cult. TBH, we’re here for it.
