The idea was to create a functional everyday and every night kinda wardrobe – and there wasn’t much missing. Denim jeans and shorts, thin knitwear and slim tailoring stood out, but over-sized tank tops and T-shirts (some in leather) also made complete sense considering Theyskens’ aesthetics. Thin wool hot pants and dyed silk trousers oozed modernity, while other pieces, like stretch denim in a 70s style, had a more vintage look. Theyskens had applied pockets to as many pieces as possible in order to offer his customer comfort. A deep purple and a gorgeous electric blue made an impact in a sea of black and white looks. Much of the collection was clean and plain in its design, but a few prints (based on Theyskens’ own paintings) and an embroidered waistcoat injected a bit action. This could be the beginning of a beautiful friendship between Oliver Theyskens and Theory… Dazed Digital: How did the collaboration come about? Olivier Theyskens: I wanted to develop a personal look but at affordable prices. I still wanted it to have an amazing fit and great quality, so working with Theory made sense! DD: How would you describe the collection? Olivier Theyskens: As clothes I would wear if I was a cool girl. It’s a sort of relaxed elegance. There is no theme behind it, just clothes that I really wanted to do, et viola! DD: What sort of fabrics are you using? Olivier Theyskens: I went to the same mills that I always use, some in Japan others in Italy. I would say they are modern but not too sci-fi. DD: Favourite piece from the collection? Olivier Theyskens: All of them! I like the diversity and organic development of the collection… Escape the algorithm!
