He just spits out style. Today it was Marc by Marc that got its fair share of the limelight. The day after his main line show, the ‘younger’ collection served up a feast of summery print dresses for girls and perfectly casual smart suits for the boys. Checks and stripes were all over the place, trench coats came out in lovely maroon shades and the guys wore high top sneakers while the female models stomped around in trainer wedges. A slight retro feeling persisted throughout Jacobs’ State Armory show, one of the few shows on New York’s East side. Optical prints in multi-coloured and voluminous dresses impressed, as did the same print on jump suits. Men’s coats, some with raglan sleeves, others without any at all, also came collarless. The summery feeling was more evident for the womenswear; hot pants, swimsuits and three quarter length trousers all made the audience fear the pending autumn. But as always, Marc Jacobs managed to make people feel better off when they left then they entered the show. Escape the algorithm!
