But it was the American rapper JT who managed to manifest a front-row seat, nine months before the maison’s SS27 catwalk. “Who wouldn’t want to go? Yes, I want to go to a Schiaparelli show!” the Miami rap star proclaimed on an episode of fashion podcast The Cutting Room Floor in January, after discussing the lack of body diversity in the industry and her feelings of imposter syndrome when asking for show invites. Fast forward to Paris Fashion Week, and JT was wearing a look from Daniel Roseberry’s newest collection ahead of the main event. JT’s appearance doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, however. After a brief stint studying fashion at university, the musician went viral at Mugler’s AW23 show when Arca snatched a bag from her hand in the audience as she walked past on the runway. Meanwhile in 2024 – after sharing her love for Rick Owens online – JT performed at the designer and Michèle Lamy’s Paris mansion. Now, posing outside the Louvre, JT wore a sheer black gown that curled up in thick tendrils around the neckline and dipped down to the waist – revealing a gold belly button ring and matching star-shaped nipple covers underneath. Later, inside the museum’s intimate, cabaret bar-like show space, the City Girl took her seat next to stylist Law Roach and, at the next table, Tate McRae and Peggy Gou. Elsewhere on the runway, Mona Tougaard walked in a barely-there, wavy asymmetric dress, Amelia Gray showed off a black, cut-out dress that laced up the back, and former Dazed cover star Awar Odhiang wore an embellished, mustard yellow blazer and midi skirt. Together, the collection, titled Going Clear, set out to stray from the fashion industry’s “promise of status and approval” – instead, reinterpreting the house’s historic codes established by founder Elsa Schiaparelli. Throughout the offering, a “black, bone, and butter” colour palette was twisted and spliced into graphic optical illusions, a series of 1930s jackets were reissued with playful embroidery, and signature couture elements were reimagined as wearable, interchangeable knits and separates. “Going clear means unsubscribing from the noise, so that what remains is a voice as clear as Barbra Streisand’s on opening night at the Bon Soir in 1962 singing ‘Cry Me a River’,” Roseberry said in a statement on Instagram. “It’s a good lesson for any kind of art, including fashion.” As for the details, however – which were teased by the show’s mismatched beaded friendship bracelet invites – more was most definitely still more. Earrings and belt buckles came shaped like animals or food, glasses were twisted into wavy, fantasy-like shapes, while the body jewellery that JT wore also peeked out from beneath suit jackets and sheer looks on the catwalk. Perhaps by next season, we’ll see the musician modelling looks on the runway herself. Scroll through the gallery at the top of the page for the entire SS27 collection Escape the algorithm!
