From September until January 2027, London’s Victoria & Albert museum will host a free public display charting the coat’s history and spotlighting 19 standout runway moments. Alongside Mary Quant’s mini skirts and McQueen’s bumsters, the trench is one of British fashion’s most famous silhouettes. And for good reason. Its name comes from the actual trenches, designed by founder Thomas Burberry for British soldiers during WWI. The exhibition takes us from 1879 up to the present day, marking the evolution of the trench with each creative director, from the brand’s founder to Christopher Bailey and Daniel Lee. Elsewhere in fashion this week, we met Monamobile, the Berlin brand making wearable tech sexy. We sat down with celebrated photographer Jackie Nickerson to chat about her latest book, and rounded up all the hottest fashion collabs from July.
