Helmut Lang Austrian Fashion designer exhibition

Helmut Lang’s archive features in a new Austrian fashion exhibition

The Show Off: Austrian Fashion Design exhibition will showcase some of the legendary designer’s most iconic works

Gaining a huge and devoted following throughout the late 90s and 00s with his minimalistic and conceptual designs, when Helmut Lang burnt and shredded over 6,000 pieces from his archive as part of an art show in 2011, fashion fans shuddered.

Now, however, a number of his remaining archival pieces are set to go on view as part of a major exhibition.

Entitled Show Off: Austrian Fashion Design and opening today (February 14) at the MAK-Museum of Applied Arts Museum in Vienna, the exhibition brings together works by over 60 designers and 30 photographers, including some of Lang’s most iconic creations.

The first exhibition to showcase Austrian fashion design, the museum wrote on its Facebook page, “Soon the MAK will become the stage for the most outstanding fashion positions designed and made in Austria, ranging from the 1980s to today.”

With pieces from Austrian-Italian designer Peter Pilotto and Andreas Kronthaler also featuring, the exhibition will run until July.

The Show Off: Austrian Fashion Design will take place from February 14 to July 12 at MAK – Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna.
