Shout out to the four men who actually made an effort at the Met Gala

We salute you!

In case you missed it (literally, how?) the Met Gala happened last night. As always, the women were on top form with Cardi B, SZA, Solange, and Lana Del Rey all looking – just like the theme – heavenly. It goes without saying that Rihanna won – in a Maison Margiela Pope-like outfit inspired by John Galliano’s AW00 Couture collection for Dior – but what about the men?

After last year’s poor attempt – Pharrell and Baz Luhrmann were the only men to wear Comme des Garçons – we were looking at them to redeem themselves. They didn’t, obviously, with the majority opting for the expected – suits. Not to say they didn’t look sharp – Riccardo Tisci, Donald Glover, and Daniel Kaluuya we’re looking at you – but talk about playing it safe. There were a handful of others who actually stuck to the holy theme though. To those few, we salute you!

PHILLIP PICARDI

Attending his very first Met Ball, Teen Vogue & them’s chief content creator Phillip Piccardi chose a Rapture-ready, priest-like robe with puffy shoulders, courtesy of Charles Jeffrey.

ALESSANDRO MICHELE & JARED LETO

Gucci’s creative director dressed and accompanied Jared Leto and Lana Del Rey, giving you Father, Son, and Holy Spirit vibes. Like many of the attendees, all wore headpieces. The bigger the headpiece, the closer to God maybe?

CHADWICK BOSEMAN

The Black Panther actor was one of many dressed in Versace – the official sponsor of the event. Taking us to church, Boseman wore a cream suit with baroque details, paired with a Byzantine cross-embellished cape.
