Following Chanel’s annoucement that it will be showing its pre SS17 collection in Havana, Cuba next year, Gucci has revealed the location of its Cruise show: London. While the exact date and location are yet to be announced, the house confirmed the news earlier today. Over the last few years, we’ve seen an increasing trend of fashion houses unveiling their pre-collections in far-flung destinations, from Salzburg to Seoul, Singapore and Saint Tropez. In June, Gucci showed its pre collection at a Chelsea gallery space in New York.
This news comes shortly after the house’s SS16 show in which its much-feted creative director Alessandro Michele unveiled his latest offering. An all-star cast of the industry’s freshest faces including Dazed favourite Ruth Bell modelled a collection that combined a sense of vintage femininity with an antique shop eclecticism and romantic nostalgia – all with a decidedly contemporary spin.
While London has long-maintained a reputation as one of the world’s four fashion capitals, it’s gaining increasing notoriety for the high calibre of designers showing in it. Yesterday the British Fashion Council announced that Tom Ford will be staging his first-ever men’s runway show at this upcoming London Collections Men – in an unprecendented move. Ford follows in the wake of Burberry Prorsum and Moschino who have also joined the LCM schedule, uprooting from Milan where both brands previously showed.
