Legendary fashion photographer Nick Knight has hit out at Instagram’s censorship of the female body, saying it "sends the worst message to women about their bodies." Knight dedicated his message to the female photographer @erotic_n_texas, who runs an account containing many tastefully shot nudes, all of which have to be censored in order to make it onto the site.
Writing on his own Instagram page, Knight said: "I am not sure how much I want to be on a platform that behaves like this. Stop censorship of women’s bodies, it sends the worst message to women about their bodies. We are supposed to be an enlightened and intelligent society. This is almost medieval in its attitude. Sex is not sinful and both women and men should be encouraged to feel proud of their bodies not ashamed."
Knight is completely right, but Instagram says that it’s Apple’s strict regulations that prevent them from #freeingthenipple and that the site is "committed to artistic freedom". Instagram wants to appeal to users of all ages and would have to move its age rating to 17+ were it to allow nudity. It currently stands at 12+
