Alicia Vikander gets freaky in the desert for Louis Vuitton

The ‘Ex Machina’ star joins Michelle Williams in a new campaign film shot by Gordon von Steiner

She’s been a robot in Ex Machina, a young queen in A Royal Affair and a British woman coming of age during World War I in Testament of Youth. Now BAFTA award winning actress Alicia Vikander plays a herself in Louis Vuitton’s new “spirit of travel” campaign, filmed in a desert, alongside a shovelnose snake.

As well as her newfound serpentine friend, Vikander is joined by a fellow thespian and Blue Valentine star Michelle Williams. The pair are shot by Canadian/British filmmaker Gordon von Steiner in Palm Springs, in the desert and at the legendary John Lautner-designed Desert Modern home, where the brand’s Cruise 2016 show was staged.

However this isn’t Vikander’s first outing for Louis Vuitton; the Swede appeared in the house’s AW15 campaign, shot by a duo of acclaimed photographers – Bruce Weber and Juergen Teller. She starred alongside Jennifer Connelly and more of Louis Vuitton creative director Nicholas Ghesquière’s muses including Liya Kebede, Fernanda Ly and Angel Rutledge.

In other LV-related news, the Met has just announced that Ghesquière will be co-hosting its 2016 gala, alongside Anna Wintour, Karl Lagerfeld and Miuccia Prada. The theme for the event, which will be taking place next May, has also been revealed as Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology – in line with the Costume Institute’s upcoming exhibition.
