Versace SS15

Micro minis and a whole lotta glitter – Donatella takes her cue from Richard Avedon's iconic AW94 campaign and the decade's classic teen films

Initial reaction:

Following on from Anthony Vaccarello's debut collection for Versace’s younger sister brand Versus, the relationship between the two seemed to have gotten a lot closer, as Donatella sent out a direct collection of graphically anchored outfits framed by the Versace Grecian border. Versace’s other house icons got remixed into a pop art print in blues and pinks, like a Patrick Caulfield painting. An irresistible onslaught of crystals then began to take hold in a clash of primary brights and candy hued pastels on dresses that were throbbing with energy. These were clothes that had Insta-impact and didn't need a fussy backstory. This was also Donatella at her unapologetically vivacious best. Versace and Versus are chiming together this season, and the result is wholly seductive.

Stand out pieces:

An all pink Clueless suit that is surely Versace's new reincarnated power suit. Two doesn’t make it a trend, but yet again it seemed the almost seminal Romy and Michele and their showstopper high school reunion outfits really did pop up here in metallic powder blue and candy pink chainmail band dresses with floating sheer panels strategically revealing hints of the body. The palette, the attitude and the whimsical youthfulness of the evening half of the show was reminiscent of Richard Avedon's iconic campaign image for the house for the AW94 featuring supermodel greats like Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer and Stephanie Seymour.

How it was worn:

Utility bags made to look like laser cut tool boards, in pastel shades with designated pockets and slots for phones, lippie and pens – everything that a 21st century working girl would need to get her through the day. The Versace girl may be trussed up in a whole lotta glitter, but she means business.
