Topman Design AW13

A world-wise traveller takes a journey across Tibetan-inspired prints and 90s street style

My day started out at Topman HQ packing up the collection and heading to the venue, we had final fittings for late arriving boys, had a rehearsal, then began dressing the boys before we knew it we were watching the finale walk on the monitor! Everything ran according to plan!

The inspiration of the collection was that the character of the show was on a journey, starting out on his travel equipped with hiking boots and practical clothing in stone tones, before adapting and evolving as his travels continued introducing Tibetan inspired prints, hot oranges, pinks and yellows worn together, cropped wool jackets, parkas and wide wader trousers in waxy waterproof fabrics, a nod to late 90s street style, continuing into burnt oranges and burgundy and then into navy, becoming more refined along the way, ending on an evening coat befitting of a world-wise traveller. My favourite look was look 17, on Simon S the mix of vivid colours in thick winter fabrics was really dynamic and fun.

The final song by George Harrison was 'What is Love?' was really fun and brought together the influences of the show. The rest of the show was a mix created by Ben Esser - which was mixed to create a youthful energy ad to evoke the idea of other cultures without being too literal! - Gary Armstrong, assist to show stylist Bryan McMahon at Topman Design
