Tommy Ton covers all fashion weeks in New York, London, Milan and paris for both mens and womenswear. As if that wasn't enough, he also goes to Pitti in Florence twice a year to kick off the menswear season. As a trade show with added catwalk glamour, Pitti is a melting pot of international press and buyers, and there's a distinctively different attitude and atmosphere there compared to the fashion capitals. With Pitti over and everyone moving on to Milan, we spoke to Tommy about the difference...
I thought the best dressed person was Poggy from United Arrows. Poggy didn't let the weather affect his typical uniform and he was still sporting his signature looser silhouette but I just love how distinctive he looks from everyone else
Dazed Digital: What have you seen and what did you like?
Tommy Ton: I've seen a more casual take on Pitti dressing, which is refreshing. You still see everyone sporting the typical Pitti uniform which consists of a double breasted blazer and white trousers but it's nice to see men of all ages loosen up and wear just a t-shirt under a jacket or shorts with a jacket. It was a bit too hot to try and make a suit statement.
DD: You shoot all fashion weeks, how does Pitti compare?
Tommy Ton: Pitti is the highlight of the season for me because it's really where you see what everyone is going to be wearing. What the men at Pitti wear is really like a barometer for what you're going to see outside the shows. If anyone is going to do it better, it's the Pitti gods and that's why I'm always anxious to attend this event more so than the shows.
DD: What did you get up after hours? Any good dinners/parties?
Tommy Ton: Usually, I don't have time to go to any dinners or parties because I'm always editing, but I did manage to spare a bit of time to support Imran at his Business of Fashion event.
DD: Who was the best dressed in pitti?
Tommy Ton: I thought the best dressed person was Poggy from United Arrows. Poggy didn't let the weather affect his typical uniform and he was still sporting his signature looser silhouette but I just love how distinctive he looks from everyone else.
DD: What you up to know/ looking forward to?
Tommy Ton: I'm on my way to Milan and then Paris for the men's shows. I always look forward to Marni and Dries Van Noten. Those are my favorite collections to see, as always!
