Preppy sportwear, ahead of the Olympics
Adidas have sponsored Team GB ever since the 1984 LA Olympics. In celebration of London 2012, the German sportwear brand's Originals division has launched the Team GB Tailored Sport collection, a preppy sportswear wardrobe firmly in the Olympic spirit.
We looked at a lot of preppy American brands, the Ivy league, and for a way to take influences from them but still stay true to everything that is synonymous with a brand like Adidas
With images shot by Cameron McNee and styled by Michael Hennegan, Dazed Digital spoke to Hennegan to learn his preppy icon and what he's most looking forward to during this summer's ultimate competition.
DD: What inspired your shoot for Adidas?
Michael Hennegan: We looked at a lot of preppy American brands, the Ivy league, and for a way to take influences from them but still stay true to everything that is synonymous with a brand like Adidas. Also different sporting venues, but then we took a walk around our local neighbourhood in east London and realised it was perfect for the balance we wanted.
DD: Do you have a preppy icon you're inspired by?
Michael Hennegan: Steve McQueen's take on preppy was pretty brilliant. Taking what essentially is a very polished look and mixing it with a bit of rough.
Dazed Digital: What Olympic event are you most looking forward to?
Michael Hennegan: The volleyball on the Horse Guards Parade. Who knew that small patch of London would prove to be so versatile?
