Artistic Director of Maison Michel and Head of Jewellery and accessories at Chanel, Laetitia Crahay threw an event with André at Le Baron last night to celebrate the milliner's Autumn/Winter 12 collection. Guests including Emily Weiss, Baby Mary and Irina Lazareanu supported in the Chanel satellite's headwear, whilst Sky Ferreira, who is photographed by Karl Lagerfeld for Maison Michel's Spring/Summer 12 lookbook, captivated the audience in an intimate performance.
"I have known André for a really long time – I met him when I arrived to Paris from Belgium with Olivier Theyskens," Crahay tells Dazed. "André was a graffiti artist going around tagging mailboxes and riding his bicycle. He is one of my oldest friends in Paris and we sort of started our careers at the same time. I remember him showing me the Baron when it was just an empty room, so it is funny to go back there and celebrate.
For A/W12, I wanted to go back to the basics and present a collection of hats and hair accessories that women really want to wear. Sometimes it is not just about trends or the newest idea, for me it's really about what I would like to wear which translates right to the Maison Michel woman and our customers. There are some recurring themes presented in a new light, with English tartan prints, rich velvet, punk spikes, delicate lace and beautiful tones of furfelt like red burgundy and Klein blue.
I love Maison Michel because I am the Artistic Director. It is my taste and my ideas so of course, what else could I say! In Paris, I love the brightness of the white city, the beauty of the Quai de Seine and the gorgeous weather. I also love the natural beauty of the girls walking in the streets. Slowly but surely I have myself become a Parisienne!"
