AnOther Magazine's Fashion Editor dissects the second day of New York Fashion Week...
AnOther Magazine, our biannual sister title, has sent its Fashion Editor, Agata Belcen, to New York. Here, she talks us through the highlights so far and what she's looking forward to on the schedule...
My highlight of the day is the Helmut Lang show. Nicole and Michael Colovos have been very respectful of the name under which they work and to the brand’s historical importance
Dazed Digital: Where are you at the moment?
Agata Belcen: Right now I’m in an apartment on West 25th where one whole wall is a large slanting window overlooking the Empire State Building, with some water coolers in the forefront. I'm just about to head out to the Lacoste show which I’ve been told is going to be quite fun. I interviewed Felipe Oliviera Baptista for the current issue of AnOther Magazine and he was a lovely, passionate man so I’m looking forward to his second season at the brand.
DD: What do you love about the New York collections? How do they contrast with those of Europe?
Agata Belcen: It’s the openener so it feels very exciting to be at the start of the season and New York as a city is very capable of incubating that kind of feeling. It’s also a proficient predictor of which models are going to do well this season and I really enjoy seeing the great casting.
DD: What's been your highlight of the day?
Agata Belcen: My highlight of the day is the Helmut Lang show. Nicole and Michael Colovos have been very respectful of the name under which they work and to the brand’s historical importance and part of that has been forging their own design identity slowly. This collection, their second on a runway, felt coherent and true to them as designers without cutting themselves off from the past.
DD: What's coming up tomorrow that you're excited about?
Agata Belcen: I’m looking forward to Alexander Wang this afternoon – it’s one of the current recognised highlights of the New York schedule.
