Felder Felder S/S 09

Backstage from London Fashion Week.

In its first three years of collections, the Felder Felder team has gone far to prove itself as a formidable commercial and creative force. Directly upon graduation from Central St. Martins, the Felder twins were selected by Gen Art to showcase their collection during New York Fashion Week. The show, styled by the legendary Patti Wilson, immediately won the support and admiration of top fashion editors, photographers, and stylists and landed them an impressive list of stockists. Their designs are renowned for their edgy, rock and roll aesthic, refined gothic tendencies, use of exquisite fabrics and materials, and progressive tailoring abilities.

For their SS 09 collection, Felder Felder have softened some of their edges, but have nonetheless kept the same spirit of rock and roll alive. Inspiration is drawn from the chiffon draped subjects of the German painter Lucas Cranach, whose soft feminity is always balanced with heavy metal adornments and a rich surrounding tableau, and by the ethereal rock princess and designer Anita Pallenberg. The collection features a series of gently draped chiffon dresses and separates, with soft layers of falling cascades, flowing tiers of effervescent silks, and viscose knits that cling softly to the body. The light and gentle quality of these refined materials is balanced successfully with strong leather elements: metal studded details and straps, and tier upon tier of stiff metallic leather fringe, which rustles ever so slightly as the model moves resulting in a subtly appealing variation in the surface.

"Silver leather and an unusual metallic python skin are used as fringes and trims and are covered with a sheer, powder coloured silk chiffon, diffusing and softening the fabrics contrasting qualities."

A palate of tonal nudes, taupes, greys, and creams is punctuated by splashes of turquiose and flamingo red. The overall result is a collection that appears fresh, clean, and sophisticated in its depiction of modern feminity, and respresents the development and growth of a design team at a formative moment in their career.
