We went backstage where no mag has gone before. Here’s what went down at the AW19 show
Last night, Vetements showed their AW19 collection in Paris. Taking place at the Natural History Museum, in a room full of taxidermy zebras, giraffes, and rhinos, the show was a tribute to internet nerds everywhere. “We kind of realised that geeks have really become the new punks. They’re changing the world!” said designer Demna Gvasalia. “So this was my tribute to what these new punks and grunge kids are doing today.”
Alongside the anarchic slogans, the misspelt corporate logos and the comically oversized puffa jackets, models sported greasy curtain bangs and hair that was sleaze peroxide and toxic green. One model rocked a shaved head with random chunks of hair still remaining. It was aggressive and it was “anti-social,” as Gvasalia called his collection. “Corporate magazines still suck a lot,” stated one Kurt Cobain homage tee. We agree. See the backstage here.
