Caroline Calloway is selling Snake Oil, a $75 homemade skincare cure-all

‘I have the skin of a viral 18-year-old TikToker,’ said the Instagram influencer

In the last year, we’ve seen love-to-hate scammer Caroline Calloway tease her highly-anticipated novel (called Scammer, of course), get into Berlin nightclub Berghain wearing a Corona t-shirt, endorse Bernie Sanders in the 2020 US Presidential election, and launch a successful literary-themed OnlyFans page – all among her usual extravagant parties and paintings.

Now, the influencer seems to be taking on the beauty world – selling a personally-mixed face oil blend via Instagram.

“We all know that I have amazing skin. This is just historically correct – I have the skin of a viral 18-year-old TikToker, and I’m turning 30 in December,” said Calloway on her Instagram story. “I think something that not a lot of people know is that I’m obsessed with making my own special face oil concoction.”

Leaning into her chaotic personal brand, the DIY product is called Snake Oil and features a hand-drawn British crest logo stuck onto a dropper bottle, alongside an undisclosed mixture of all-natural facial oils. According to Calloway, this could mean some blend of grapeseed oil, clary sage, sandalwood, pomegranate seeds, and lemon peel oil – counteracting aging and acne in a self-proclaimed “elixir of youth”.

“Basically, I’ve become obsessed with anti-aging oils and I’ve combined them all into the perfect mixture,” she explained. “I put it on my face after all the other products.”

As stated on Instagram, Calloway's friends encouraged her to sell the face oil blend after she gifted them with samples. “My friends were like, ‘You should sell this,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I love money. What a great idea,’ but I just had other projects that needed my attention more urgently (like) finishing Scammer,” she said, vaguely teasing the book’s release.

For now, the product costs $75 per one ounce bottle and $210 per four ounces, with Calloway comparing the prices to Goop’s $98 all-in-one Super Nutrient face oil. She stated, however, that she’s working on professional packaging which will increase the price.

Otherwise – after selling the first nine bottles – Calloway is dropping 48 bottles of Snake Oil on Wednesday (July 7), adding names to a waitlist through Instagram DMs.

Will Snake Oil live up to its fraudulent name? Or perhaps Calloway will be the next Gwyneth Paltrow, securing her own Goop-style beauty empire. Either way, we can’t deny that we want to try some.
