By now, we’re all familiar with the pandemic’s impact on the beauty industry (and the rest of the world), but if we were to single out a product that had been most impacted, it would be lipstick. With masks mandatory, beauty fans were quick to retire their lippies in favour of bold eyes, not knowing how to achieve a long-lasting lip look that didn’t budge.
But those people were wrong, this is the most crucial time to invest in a lipstick that not only lasts throughout the day, but also looks after your lips in the process. Enter: Gucci Beauty’s new range of Rouge de Beauté Brillant Lipsticks.
Created like a balm, the product’s formula infuses your lips with moisture thanks to black rose and peony oils as well as hyaluronic acid to keep them plump and shiny. But that’s not all! It’s 15-shade range is packed with pigments for a long-lasting colour payoff and, as always, the packaging is beautiful – inspired by vintage brooches, thanks to Alessandro Michele’s penchant for collectibles.
To help celebrate the range, make-up artist Coco Hirani and photographer Andy Hoang collaborated on a fun series of images in the house’s fashions, while putting the lipstick through its paces. Spoiler alert: It doesn’t go anywhere. “I'm always in search of a lip product that is hydrating, glossy but not sticky. Texture is very important, especially for comfort,” Hirani says. “The Rouge de Beauté Brillant lipsticks feel like balms on the skin leaving me hydrated and plumped. Plus there are some delicious staple colours that go with any occasion.”
For Hirani – who has been working for over 10 years, for the likes of Armani, Alberta Ferretti, and Vogue Italia – make-up has always been a way of enhancing her personality. “It’s a reflection of my inner style that radiates my confidence,” she says and Gucci Beauty is a go-to in her kit and personal life. “The brand has a diverse colour range which is fantastic as it caters to everyone. I also love that everything is multi-use, I can create a whole look using one product if I’m pushed for time. The Rouge de Beauté Brillant lipsticks are very diverse and buildable which allows them to be used in different ways – it’s a whole look in one product.”
While mask-wearing will very much remain part of our lives for the foreseeable, the make-up artist offers her tips for getting your Gucci lipstick to last all day long. “I use bronzer around the edge of the lip to contour and prevent any feathering,” she shares. “This also makes the lips appear more plump and luscious!”
“It was really powerful for me to represent myself with this beauty story,” Hirani concludes on her highlight of the project. “I feel proud to have translated my point of view as a person with Indian and Kenyan heritage within the beauty industry.”
Gucci Rouge de Beauté Brillant Lipsticks and the rest of products in the collection are available from Selfridges.
