James Charles’ YouTube demonetised amid underage sexting accusations

TextDazed Digital

The news comes a day after Morphe announced that it would be parting ways with the beauty influencer, who’s facing numerous allegations of grooming minors online

Just a day after Morphe announced that it would be cutting ties with James Charles, the beauty influencer has had his YouTube channel demonetised amid allegations that he groomed underage boys online.

In a statement issued to Insider, YouTube said it had applied its ‘creator responsibility policy’ to Charles’ account, restricting his ability to make money from the platform. It didn’t say how long his channel would be demonetised for.

“If we see that a creator’s on and/or off-platform behaviour harms our users, community, employees, or ecosystem, we may take action to protect the community,” YouTube’s policy reads. The site lists “participating in abuse” as an example of untolerated behaviour.

The decision comes after two minors accused Charles of sending them sexually explicit messages and images. In February, 16-year-old Isaiyah posted a now-deleted video on TikTok that appeared to show the 21-year-old beauty influencer sexting him via Snapchat. Isaiyah said the photos made him “really uncomfortable” and claimed that Charles continued to ask for nude photos despite Isaiyah telling him he was underage.

Charles denied the accusations in a Twitter post, calling them “completely false”. He alleged that Isaiyah lied about his age, telling Charles he was 18. The beauty influencer claimed he soon questioned “the validity of his original age answer” and asked him to confirm his age again, to which Isaiyah “admitted he was 16”.

Isaiyah condemned Charles’ response, claiming that the influencer “never asked for my age” and “proceeded to ask me for nudes” after he told him he was 16. Isaiyah alleged that Charles said he wished “the timeline could speed up so you can be 18”.

On April 1, Charles shared a video titled ‘holding myself accountable’, in which he addressed the allegations and apologised “to anybody that I’ve hurt or anybody that I’ve made uncomfortable with my actions”.

Then, on April 17, after Morphe cut ties with Charles, he issued another statement. It read: “Since posting that video, many other people have come forward with a series of misleading stories and false allegations which have been reported on by many people, creators, and news outlets. My legal team has begun taking action against those that have spread misinformation and/or created completely fake stories, as this has gone too far.”

The recent accusations follow 2019 allegations by Tati Westbrook, which claimed Charles was predatory towards other men – Westbrook later said these were fabricated.
