An honest review of Emma Chamberlain’s Bad Habit skincare line

Everything you need to know about the 10-piece collection and most importantly, does it work?

Skincare lines are the new celebrity fragrance. Everyone has one, from Alicia Keys and Millie Bobby Brown, to Pharrell Williams and Kylie Jenner, with influencers branching into the beauty scene with products too. 

The latest comes from influencer Emma Chamberlain, who was recently announced as creative director and global brand ambassador for Bad Habit, a colourful new skincare brand. Described as a “hybrid skin-care wellness brand”, it’s designed for stressed-out skin, with Chamberlain focusing the 10-piece collection for Gen Z and millennials dealing with acne, a condition that the influencer has been open about experiencing on her social media. 

Boasting more than 12 million Instagram followers and nearly 10 million YouTube subscribers, much of the new range, available now on Morphe (and owned by its parent company Forma Brands), is already sold out, but I was keen to put it through its paces. It’s broken down into two categories; daily skincare essentials with two cleansers and two moisturisers, and targeted quick-fix treatments that include a face oil, hyaluronic acid face mask, charcoal mask, face mist, AHA/enzyme peel, and hand cream. 

Stressed-out skin is the most apt description I could use for myself. Whether it’s dealing with constant outbreaks of hormonal acne, congestion and added spots from dreaded maskne, or tackling dry, flaky skin on my cheeks, there’s little keeping my complexion happy in lockdown. For a week I used nothing but products from the Bad Habit range. Firstly, the packaging is fun, sturdy and smartly done, decorated with bold font and easy-to-read ingredients lists, with the colour of each packaging correlating with the product it contains. 

Everything is under £30 and richly infused with essential oils so it’s naturally very fragrant, and there’s an excessive use of colour, that makes no difference in performance but is extremely Instagram-friendly. As I’m prone to sensitivity, I was wary that my skin may be irritated by the combination of colour and fragrance. While a week certainly isn’t long enough to fully be able to judge how my skin reacted to using the products, I can share all the nitty-gritty details of how they felt on the skin and any changes I saw while using them.
