Does George Clooney really cut his hair with an infomercial vacuum?

‘Proper suction is the key to getting great looking haircuts’

“Before the Flowbee, only a skilled professional could produce a good layered haircut,” the Very Enthusiastic voiceover tells us in an 80s infomercial for the Flowbee vacuum as we watch a collection of average Joes demonstrate the device which combines a hoover with an electric razor. “Tens of thousands have been sold to satisfied customers. Why? Because it really works!”

If you are feeling sceptical right now you wouldn’t be alone, but now one brave soul has come forward to endorse the Flowbee message that ‘it really works!’ and it’s none other than George Clooney.

On Sunday, the actor (and generally agreed upon quite attractive, put-together human being) opened up on CBS Sunday Morning about his personal life, his career and his DIY hair cutting method. Long before the rest of us were watching tutorials on how to trim our split ends in lockdown, it turns out Clooney was giving himself home hair cuts with a device best known for being parodied on Wayne’s World (“The suck kut is a revolution in home haircutting... as you can see it sucks as it cuts”).

“I’ve been cutting my own hair for 25 years,” Clooney says in the interview. “I bought a thing called a Flowbee. It comes with a vacuum cleaner and the clippers. My haircuts take literally two minutes.”

“Listen man, it works!” he laughingly ends.

Given Clooney’s well-documented love of pranks we will need to see some solid evidence before we are fully onboard the Flowbee train but if Clooney is up for a Nespresso-style Flowbee ad we imagine the train would start picking up speed quite quickly. Can’t you just picture him saying, ‘Proper suction is the key to getting great looking haircuts’?
