Morphe removes all Shane Dawson x Jeffree Star Conspiracy beauty products

TextAlex Peters

The move comes amid growing backlash against the two YouTubers including from Jaden Smith

Jeffree Star’s make-up ‘Conspiracy’ collection with Shane Dawson appears to be no longer for sale on the Morphe website, sparking speculation that it has been removed amid the backlash against the prominent YouTuber.

Last year, Star and Dawson teamed up on the ‘Conspiracy’ beauty collection which was released in conjunction with two video series which followed the making of the collab. Both the documentaries and the collection were massively successful. To date, the videos have collectively racked up over 300 million views while over one million ‘Conspiracy’ eyeshadow palettes were sold in just 30 minutes, according to Star.

Then, last week, Dawson reignited the drama around the beauty community’s biggest feud ever – featuring James Charles, Tati Westbrook, and Star. In a lengthy, four-page statement published on Twitter, Dawson addressed his own involvement in the drama, criticised Charles for being a “young egocentric power hungry guru” and said goodbye to the “circus” of the beauty world.

The statement, however, did not go down well with Dawson’s followers who took issue with him saying that Charles deserved to be “humbled,” for defending Star – who has a laundry list of racist, misogynist incidents in this past – and for stating he was “done” with the beauty industry on the same day as he announced a restock of his ‘Conspiracy’ palette. Following the post, Dawson lost 50,000 Twitter followers and subsequently deleted it.

However, the statement sparked renewed interest in Dawson’s past, stirring up old YouTube videos of him making numerous and frequent “jokes” about paedophilia including with his young cousins, wearing blackface on several occasions, using the N-word, and “joking” about the death of Trayvon Martin.

In response to the growing backlash, Dawson posted a 20-minute apology video addressing his old videos. “Blackface was something that I did a lot. Like, I did it a lot on my channel. There’s no excuse for it, there’s literally no excuse,” he said, blaming his controversial “jokes” on childhood trauma.

The apology was not good enough for many, however, including Jaden Smith and mother Jada who joined the chorus of criticism against Dawson after a video resurfaced which showed Dawson pretending to masturbate to a poster of Willow Smith, who was 11 years old at the time.

“Shane Dawson I am disgusted by you. You sexualising an 11 year old girl who happens to be my sister!!!!!!! Is the furthest thing from funny and not okay in the slightest bit,” tweeted Jaden before adding: “This man was also doing black face on the regular. As the youth we need to support creators who support us and our morals. This is not okay.”

Following the criticism, retail giant Target announced it would be removing Dawson’s books from its stores and now it appears that Morphe has removed Shane's Conspiracy collection from their website as well.

YouTube drama channel Sanders Kennedy first tweeted the news, writing: “Morphe removed Jeffree x Shane Conspiracy palettes,” alongside a screenshot of the website. Morphe have not yet confirmed or denied the claims, but Jeffree Star Cosmetics products are still available on their site.
