See what Bella Hadid’s Met Ball 2020 beauty look would have looked like

TextAlex Peters

Bella’s make-up artist, Sam Visser, shares pics of the model with painted freckles and red hair

Every year, the beginning of May brings with it not only the hope of warmer weather to come but also the most glittering event of the social calendar: the Met Ball, when the crème de la crème of the fashion industry gather together to raise money for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

This year, as with all other large public events that involve the need to leave the house, mingle with people and turn some looks, the gala was cancelled. The celebrities have had to hang up their couture, heartbreakingly, we’ll not get to see how the majority interpreted the 2020 theme of ‘time’ and Virgina Woolf’s novel Orlando, after Susan Sontag’s Notes of Camp provided so much rich, campy entertainment and aesthetics last year.

However, some of the intended attendees, including Katy Perry who revealed her Madonna-esque Jean-Paul Gaultier maternity look, have been sharing what their looks might have been, including Bella Hadid. The model’s make-up artist Sam Visser posted some test-shots of the look he would have created for Hadid on his Instagram. In the images, Hadid wears a long, curly strawberry blonde wig, styled by hairstylist and Dazed 100-er Evanie Frausto. Another shot sees her with super straight here, a potential second option. The model also wears lilac eyeshadow, glossy brown lips, and a wash of faux freckles. Visser captioned the post “WHAT WOULD’VE BEEN...MET 2020.” While the full look will never have it’s intended moment in the spotlight, it did predict Hadid’s isolation fringe that she has cut for herself since being in lockdown.

If, like Visser, you are also feeling wistful for what would have been why not create your own look as part of the #metgalachallenge which has seen people virtually participate in the High Fashion Twitter Met Gala. Or in the spirit of time travel, take a trip to the year 2070 where cyborg guests walk the hallowed green carpet of the Met, Grimes and Elon’s grandchild shows up, and President Kim Kardashian gives a rousing speech.
