Dries Van Noten SS20 sent models down the runway with the star’s signature neon roots
While Eilish has rocked most hair colours, it’s her slime green roots which became instantly iconic and are now synonymous with the star. And now her signature style is inspiring the runways by way of Dries Van Noten.
For the AW20 show in Paris, Dries Van Noten sent models down the catwalk with their dark hair brightened up with fluorescent colours at the roots courtesy of Sam McKnight. Unlike Eilish, however, these weren’t a permanent bleach job but created by layering soft neon feathers along the parting of the slicked-back style and then using hairspray to blend the feathers into the hair. These colourful block roots came in an array of different hues but undoubtedly recalled Eilish’s look particularly those models who sported the musician’s signature slime green.
Of the look, McKnight wrote that the colour was a way of brightening up these dark wintry days. “When I talked with Dries about his collection, he said it was inspired by the late seventies, early eighties club scene, when girls would get VERY dressed up to go out,” the hairstylist wrote on Instagram. “There was a certain dark romance, we looked at the photos and makeup of Serge Lutens and then Dries thought, ‘but what might these night people do now, in this century?’”
