The two hid their relationship for years for fear of losing brand endorsement
Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger are going from strength to strength. Fresh off their historic wedding last month, the Women’s World Cup champions and Orlando Pride players have just landed their first beauty deal. The power couple has been announced as the new brand ambassadors for haircare brand Bumble and bumble.
“Sports have been cut out of the beauty conversation for too long—we want to merge that gap,” Harris said in an interview with Vogue. “Bumble and bumble has always been on the cutting edge of what's different. It's a non-conforming brand, and we want to show that beauty takes on many forms and should be celebrated within sports.”
As part of the partnership, Harris and Krieger will promote Bumble and bumble’s products, co-host personal appearances, and create content for the brand’s social media.
This announcement feels particularly poignant since the couple, who have been together for a decade, hid their relationship from the public for years for fear of losing endorsement from brands. The two announced their relationship and engagement last year before their wedding in Miami in December 2019.
The partnership is a welcome and important step in LGBTQ+ athletes and public figures being endorsed by mainstream brands. “It has given us a type of voice and platform where we can go out and show other people this is possible. We have happy endings, too, and we can be celebrated for being a couple that is the same sex and that’s OK and it’s beautiful,” Harris told WWD. “I felt for so long I had to hide such an important piece of me. Now that I don’t have to do that, and companies are willing to get on board, I’m seeing the change I’ve always envisioned.”
Since the World Cup this past summer, women’s football has become more high profile. Last week fellow US star and outspoken Trump critic Megan Rapinoe became the new face of fashion brand Loewe.
