Side-fringe fans rejoice! MySpace emos are ringing in the RAWRING 20s

RAWR XD

Just when you thought things couldn’t get any worse, it seems a scene revival is afoot.

While many people have taken the dawning of the new decade as a chance to revisit the jazz, poetry, and decadence of the 1920s, there are some who are celebrating the return of a slightly different era – namely early 2000s emo and scene culture.

Yes, that’s right, dust off your studded belts, eyeliner, hairspray, and The Black Parade CDs because social media has officially dubbed this decade the RAWRING 20s.

To mark the occasion and rejoice, emos from across the internet are taking to Twitter to spread the word and share their throwback pics. “It's officially the RAWRing 20's so we are bringing this back :3,” tweeted user @the_life_of_daz, while @xangeturboidog enthusiastically shared this call to arms, “OK EMO ARMY ITS OFFICIALLY THE RAWRING 20S XD, GET OUT YOUR EYELINER AND RUBBER BRACELETS BC WERE GOING INTO THE CITY TO SEE A MARCHING BAND. PARTY ALL NIGHT BC WE WILL NEVER SLEEP CAUSE SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK. WE GONNA RAWR :3 *BLUSHES AND NUZZLES U* THIS WHOLE DECADE.”

With era-defining band My Chemical Romance playing their first show in seven years last month with a reunion concert in LA, Paramore’s Hayley Williams announcing last week that solo music is coming this year, and fashion and beauty going all emotional, it seems that an emo revival could truly be on the cards.

At a time when society is feeling more and more divided and the planet increasingly in crisis, maybe it’s the perfect time to bring back the subculture of disenfranchised youths expressing themselves through dark poetry, dark music, and dark make-up. RAWR!
