Karl Lagerfeld is releasing a make-up collection from beyond the grave

The collaboration with L’Oréal Paris will channel the late designer’s rock-chic style

The news of Karl Lagerfeld’s death this February was a shock not only to those in the fashion community but everyone around the world for whom Lagerfeld was a household name. One of fashion’s most revered figures, Lagerfeld created not only decades of exquisite sartorial craftsmanship but also stunning beauty looks to accompany it. From coloured streaks in the hair of supers for the SS94 collection up until his final show 2019 Spring Couture where models walked the runway with electrocution blitz-kids hairstyles, red lips and teal eyes, beauty at Chanel was always a feast for the eyes.

Lagerfeld’s legacy will no doubt continue for many generations to come, in some more literal ways than others. Today it was announced that before he died, Lagerfeld put into motion plans for a make-up collection in collaboration with L’Oréal Paris that will channel his “rock-chic style, fused with a sense of Parisian elegance,” WWD reports.

While there are no details as of yet about what the products will be or look like, what we do know is that the one-off collection will be revealed for online sales on September 20 with a global release on September 27 during Paris Fashion Week.

“This line of makeup truly reflects the Karl Lagerfeld brand universe and what Karl loved in makeup,” Caroline Lebar, head of image and communication at the Karl Lagerfeld fashion house told WWD.

“All of our fashion designer collaborations are an honor, but this one is particularly meaningful,” added Délphine Viguier-Hovasse, the new global brand president of L’Oréal Paris. “While Karl upturned the hierarchy of the landscape to democratize fashion, L’Oréal Paris is committed to making beauty according to women’s own rules and desires.”

This will not be the first time Lagerfeld made a foray into make-up. Aside from working with people like Peter Philips on Chanel Beauty, the designer also collaborated last year with Australian beauty company ModelCo on a collection including a palette inspired by his cat Choupette and had a capsule range with retail giant Sephora.
