12-year-old YouTube star and North West’s viral babysitter JoJo Siwa has had her make-up kit for Claire’s recalled for containing a dangerous level of asbestos, after the FDA issued a warning earlier this week.
Taking to Twitter to announce their findings, the FDA said the following: “Today, the FDA is releasing new results from its continued testing of cosmetic products for asbestos & is warning consumers to not use 2 additional products that have tested positive for asbestos & have been recalled.”
The make-up kit contains a candy coloured eyeshadow palette, two lip glosses, and a nail polish, and has been on sale since March 2018. Popular amongst adolescents, the FDA is now urging parents to confiscate the kits if found.
Asbestos is a highly toxic mineral often found in plastic. It is deadly if ingested in large quantities and causes a horrifying list of health problems. According to The World Health Organization, asbestos causes half of all occupational cancer deaths, a chilling fact when you think about how this product has been distributed to thousands of adolescent buyers for over a year.
Shockingly, the news comes only three months after Claire’s was forced to recall additional products for high levels of asbetos, and to make matters worse, the brand filed for bankruptcy protection less than a year before the scandal hit the media, preventing the company from going under in case of a lawsuit.
JoJo Siwa has yet to comment since the story broke last week.
