You need to see these UV-glowing neon hair tattoos

TextAmanda Ng

Going raving?

In another innovative step for the beauty world, UV glowing hair tattooing is now a thing. Taiba Akhuetie is the brains behind Keash - the braiding and blow-dry bar which also offers everything from tooth gems to wig decorating workshops, and now hair tattoos. UV glowing ones at that. Taking to Instagram, Keash debuted their neon rave looks, which are steadily going viral. Luminescent Chanel logo in mint, fuschia and coral? Yes please. Neon slime green Louis Vuitton monogram? Why not? Here we catch up with Taiba about her latest, greatest hair trend.

What is the inspiration behind the hair tattoos?
Taiba Akhuetie: My speciality is braids but recently I’ve been playing around and becoming more creative with my products and tools. I’m based in WAH Nails in Soho, where I often get crazy nail designs which inspired me to try out something that you can really show off. I’m all about being extra, and hair tattooing is the perfect way to make an entrance into a rave.

What's the process?
Taiba Akhuetie: Oooo well that would be telling, wouldn’t it?

How do you get them to glow in the dark?
Taiba Akhuetie: Let’s just call it Taiba Taiba magic!

Who are they for?
Taiba Akhuetie: Anyone who loves attention...

Can we do it ourselves?
Taiba Akhuetie: Probs not, you’ll have to book in with me if you want to get the real deal.

Are you planning on doing them in other shapes?
Taiba Akhuetie: Of course, let’s just say, the possibilities are endless.

What is the significance of using such an iconic logo like Louis Vuitton?
Taiba Akhuetie: It’s a throwback to the Stephen Sprouse UV moment and Takashi Murakami rainbow Louis Vuitton design. After that came out well, I decided to play around with more iconic fashion logos.

Do you see hair tattooing becoming a common practice in the future?
Taiba Akhuetie: It’s something that’s been done before but I definitely want to take it to the next level.
